Migraine Headache Symptoms What exactly is a migraine headache? A lot of research has been done on this topic and it appears that such a condition is caused by a slight change in the brain and the surrounding blood vessels. Each person can display different symptoms for a migraine and there are various type of migraines. These are the five main phases of the symptoms manifested in an average migraine headache. The first is the prodrome which is the time when several kinds of warning signals become apparent: a change in mood, where you can feel either irritated or depressed, or highly strung. |

Another
symptom of an impending migraine headache is the onset of
the so-called aura. This is a common visual disturbance that
migraine sufferers experience before the actual headache
strikes. Some migraineurs develop blind spots called
ëscotomasí, while some others may develop
hemianopsia, or blindness on one side. Some others may see
flashing lights and bright geometric patterns in their
visual field.
The third phase in the list of symptoms is the actual headache. A migraine headache frequently occurs on one side, but it may occur on both sides as well, and causes a severe to dull throbbing pain. Most migraine sufferers feel nauseated, and many vomit at some stage during the migraine attack. Some become ultra sensitive to light, known as photophobia, and some to sound, known as phonophobia.
Either all or some of these migraine headache symptoms may last from about four hours to seventy-two hours.
The fourth phase is that of headache termination. This is the stage when the headache is terminated, and it is more often than not completely cured with sleep and rest, whether it is treated with medication or not.
The fifth and final stage is that of postdrome when some signs of the migraine attack linger on, for example nausea, extreme fatigue and problems with concentration.
If you feel that you may be suffering from migraine headaches, then you will suffer also from any or all of the above described symptoms. You may either experience flashing lights, or the famous aura, or a blind spot, in which you would experience a temporary loss of vision on one side. You may also experience tiredness and extreme muscle fatigue, accompanied by yawning, or irritability, or on the other hand euphoria. You may feel very sleepy, and also feel depressed.
Nausea is one of the more common symptoms of a migraine headache, and this can be accompanied by vomiting. A migraine headache occurs with frequency, and at times, it may even occur, very unfortunately, in the postdrome period when the migraine sufferer has had a severe attack and is in the process of recovering gradually from it.
Do not worry if you are indeed a sufferer; remember, about one in ten people suffer from migraine headaches; migraine is more common in women than in men, and it can attack people of any age.
Keep these symptoms of migraine headaches in mind, and when you feel that you are indeed suffering from migraine, then seek treatment immediately form your physician.
Treatments vary widely and it is advisable to treat your migrtaine with natural methods before taking medications, which ar eoften accompanied with side effects. Relaxation techniques are simple to learn and can be very beneficial.
